Small business insurance FAQ

What kind of insurance do I need?

Many small businesses find it challenging to figure out what kind of coverage they need. Here are the four questions we get asked most frequently.

Get a customized instant quote to find out what kind of coverage your business needs.

1. What is General Liability insurance?

General liability business insurance can help provide financial protection for some of the most common accidents. It can help cover a wide range of risks including injuries to customers, damage to property that doesn’t belong to you and more. It’s one of the most frequently purchased types of insurance by small businesses across industries. Some clients and agencies may ask for a certificate of insurance proving that you have general liability coverage before they will work with you.

2. How much does General Liability cost?

The cost of general liability insurance is determined by a number of factors including your industry, your business operations, the size of your business, how much coverage you want, policy limits and more. General liability insurance could cost as little as $11 per month† for low-risk businesses. Get an instant quote to see coverage costs for your business.

3. What is Professional Liability insurance?

Professional liability insurance can help protect your business if you are accused of making a professional mistake or negligence. It can help cover:
  • Business errors
  • Claims of professional negligence
  • Professional misrepresentation
  • Legal defense costs
Coverage can help you pay for expenses if you’re at fault for a mistake or professional negligence, and can help pay for defense costs if you’re falsely accused.

4. What is a Certificate of Insurance (COI), and why do I need one?

A certificate of insurance (COI) is proof of insurance. A COI shows clients, landlords, business partners and others your small business insurance details. With a COI, you can:
  • Bid on jobs.
  • Get a professional license or register your business.
  • Sign a lease with a commercial landlord.
  • Satisfy contract requirements to land a job.
  • Create new business partnerships.
  • Build trust with clients and prospects.

With NEXT, you can generate as many COIs as you need in minutes and have them immediately available to you online.
